Hey everyone,
So last week was a funny one for me, it was full of random bits and pieces!
I started looking into nurseries for Aurora to attend in September. This was really strange. I am finding that I am not sure whether I don't like the nurseries because I genuinely don't like them, or I am just not mentally prepared for her to go to nursery. If I am honest the latter seems most unlikely as I CAN NOT WAIT to have some time to myself - doing my uni course - Obviously.
So aside from looking at nurseries for my little monkey I also tried my hand at some up-cycling. I have done this before with my bed side table and my chest of drawers. I did those two pieces of furniture earlier this year because plain wood is just boring! However, at the time I decided to keep my desk as it was because, it had a decent finish although it was second hand and did have some drawings and stickers on it! So anyway, last week I brought some sandpaper and started sanding the drawers and that was that, I had started so I had to finish!
In hindsight, with my broken hand, I probably should have acquired an electric sander from some person who collects random DIY equipment, but alas it wasn't meant to be. I feel as though I should elaborate on my broken hand...
It was about 18 months ago now, and I played netball again for the first time since school - I am amazingly unfit - but there I was playing and for some reason my ankle gave way from beneath me and I fell right onto my hand. Was in pain for days but my hand was okay it was my ankle that was killing me, I could not walk! Then it got to the point where I went to A&E - NOW this is something I was putting off purely because the last time I went to A&E I came out with a baby, they say lightening never strikes twice but honestly it would be just my luck! Spoiler alert... there was no other baby. So anyway, I got an x-ray on both my wrist and my ankle and they said that it was just a sprain on both. So my ankle was healing nicely was back walking within a couple of days but my hand.... honestly, I waited another six or so weeks and it wasn't getting any better, so the hospital gave me another x-ray and a support. Another six weeks passed - no improvement so I went back for another x-ray and an MRI scan. Never got the results from that but then earlier this year I went to the doctor and then referred me for yet another x-ray and it turns out I have a broken scaphoid - see picture below!! So now I have to make a decision as to whether I have surgery or not and have a consultation later this week!
Anyway back to the up-cycling - so I was sanding and that took me around four days - this was perfect procrastination - uni work was not big on my to do list last week! So the sanding was finished, and I'll admit, towards the end I got a little lazy and did the bare minimum which actually turned out to be just as effective as the intense sanding I started out doing! When I finished the sanding that’s when Aurora finally decided to help me! Little Miss Fine Job!
So I haven't ruined my hand any more! Well done me and I have painted the desk, so it matches my other furniture and honestly, I love it! It was not only a welcomed distraction, but it’s just bought the whole room together and everything now matches - including my two shelves that I made from my old bedside table.... long story short - I can't actually take anything off said shelves because they will just fall down, but hey... they look cool!
So yes, last week I did that, I binged Lucifer on Netflix, I was poorly. As if I need a reason to binge watch a TV series!! I also played a game called nappy roulette - my apologies Rory - I must say I did not mean to play nappy roulette - It got to Wednesday and I do my shop on a Thursday and I had no money to go and buy her nappies so I had to make three nappies last a day and a night! It was tough - but you will all be happy to hear we did it.... even if we had to go to Lidl in the nappy she wore at night. We got there before it opened and looked like those people who are keen "middle of Lidl" shoppers! So in a nutshell that was my week last week!
If anyone would like to give me any tips on choosing a nursery and what I am supposed to be looking for - please just drop me a message would be totally appreciated! Also yes, I am totally available to up-cycle anything for you! Just hit me up and I will cater to your upcycling needs!
Many thanks, sincerely
